Network Deliverables

As one of 11 provincial nodes contributing to the Canadian Primary Care Research Network (CPCRN), BC-PHCRN supports CPCRN’s vision to create a sustainable pan-Canadian learning health system, supported by patient-oriented, practice-based research that improves primary care provincially and nationally.

In collaboration with the BC Ministry of Health (MoH), BC-PHCRN has identified five key Network deliverables for 2022-2027.

1. Grow BC’s Practice-Based Learning Network (that is, BC-PHCRN)

  • Recruit BC practitioners to participate in the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) and cross-jurisdictional research projects to support clinic-level quality improvement.
  • Maintain a community of primary health care researchers across BC and Canada.
  • Streamline vetted MoH access to electronic medical record data for research and quality improvement projects.
  • Provide MoH with primary care research expertise as it relates to policy inquiries.

2. Contribute to pan-Canadian Primary Health Care Information System

  • Link provincial patient reported experience measures (PREM) and patient reported outcome measures (PROM) with administrative data.
  • Develop priority reports from electronic medical record data as identified by MoH.

3. Connect and support cross-jurisdictional primary health care research projects

  • Identify quality improvement research priorities for BC with MoH.
  • Connect MoH with provincial/national researchers through a Policy Hub to share and prioritize provincial goals.

4. Contribute to provincial and national capacity building

  • Facilitate MoH engagement with CPCRN’s national community of practice to encourage multi-disciplinary collaborations.
  • Develop a BC patient advisory committee to inform BC-PHCRN practices.

5. Inform decision-makers of Network progress and research outcomes

  • Inform MoH of network progress and research outcomes through biannual reporting and meetings.
  • Host annual meeting between MoH and primary care researchers aligned with the annual UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) health policy conference.
