Please describe your research project and how it contributes to improving primary care
The OECD PaRIS (Patient Reported Indicator Survey) is an international and pan-Canadian initiative developing, standardizing and implementing a new generation of indicators that measure patient-reported experiences and patient-reported outcome measures (PREMs/PROMs) for primary care.
The goal of this survey is to help understand patient experiences with primary care (what makes a difference in their experience) and how we can improve healthcare services (quality improvement). The findings will be combined to help understand the experiences of those living with chronic conditions and the healthcare services they receive. The findings from the study will be compared provincially, nationally, and internationally.
How is BC-PHCRN involved?
This study is supported by Canada’s Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) Canadian Primary Care Research Network (CPCRN). Therefore, as a practiced-based learning network (PBLN), BC-PHCRN is leading the initiative in BC and collaborating with other provinces involved with the CPCRN.
How will the results of this initiative be shared with stakeholder groups (i.e. clinicians, policy makers, patients)?
Aggregated and de-identified patient responses will be shared with each clinic to learn more about patient experiences with their care, for the purposes of quality improvement. These reports will also compare patient experiences of other participating British Columbian and Canadian practices. Results will also be shared through national and international conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
